This item works great for made at home school lunches. I can send my daughter to school with soup, macaroni and cheese, yogurt or even milk for cereal and this thermos keeps temperature for 5 hours. I do however recommend hand washing only.

The thermos is what I expected. I pack warm food in it for my daughter. I put boiling water in it 15 minutes before I add the hot food as I've read others suggest. Even with that preparation her lunch isn't really hot when she eats. I pack her lunch at 7:30 she eats at 11:15. She said it's warm but not hot. Depending on what you're packing I think it's suitable. On the flip side when I packed cold food she said it was still very cold when she got to it. In general it's a good thermos and easy to open and close.
