You may not have heard of Leifheit before and wonder who they are, and whether their products are any good? So, here is a little background info about them.Leifheit AG is a German manufacturing company that makes kitchen equipment. It was founded in 1959 by Günter Leifheit, 1920 – 2009, with his wife Ingeborg. They sold the company in 1973 and today it is part of SDAX. It has its headquarters at Nassau, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany, although it also has subsidiaries in the USA, Czech Republic, France, South Africa and elsewhere. Its kitchen equipment trades under the name Soehnle.Leifheit invent, design and manufacture a large range of domestic products, from ironing boards to rotary driers, laundry equipment, kitchen equipment including preserving jars, as well as cleaning equipment. Their innovative designs have won awards. They sell through John Lewis and other retail outlets. They have a fairly good reputation. These can openers appear to be extremely well made, even though they are made in China and not in Germany. Sometimes Chinese goods are sub-standard, break easily and wear out sooner than expected… but these can openers are in a quite different and higher class. They are made of faultless, sturdy stainless steel and yet still have an elegant feel about them. All the metal edges are rounded and there are no sharp edges to act abrasively in your hands. The handles are coated in a generous white high quality plastic which feels smooth and pleasant in the hand, with the top side extra smooth and the under-side slightly micro granulated, so that they do not slip when in use. Examples of a well thought out design. The can opener operates like a Rolls Royce, so smoothly and quietly that you wonder if it has cut the tin open at all ? Yes, it has. And, just as claimed, it leaves no sharp edges. It is an amazingly efficient mechanism. To operate the opener, the handles are opened slightly, the head is engaged on the top of the can, and a an elegant plastic knob is twisted by hand. Presto !... an opened can in seconds. All completely effortlessly. These can openers have been precision engineered to work so well. As a bonus, there is also a metal cap opener, flipping open the type of cap which seals fizzy drinks and beers etc. On the other side, there are a pair of nippers, small jaws that act like mini pliers. Maybe useful for something? These can openers should last a lifetime, so it is a puzzle why the manufacturer only guarantees them for 3 years. Some other makes guarantee for 10 years or more, so this lets the product down a little. At RRP £27.95, and an Amazon price of £21.75, they seem expensive. But if you want the best quality and can afford the price… these surely will satisfy even the most critical owner. They are a sheer pleasure to use. They are faultless.

Damit lassen sich runde Dosen beliebiger! Größe mühelos öffnen. Eckige Dosen habe ich noch nicht probiert. Gibt es nicht in meinem Haushalt.

I seriously cannot fault this tin opener. Until now, I had no idea that such a thing existed - a tin opener that doesn't leave razor sharp, lethal edges?! For me, this means a lot as over he years I've developed a bit of a fear of sharp tins since when I opened one once I put my finger in to lift the lid out and managed to get my finger jammed in there against the sharp edge and the lid and needless to say it didn't end well.Gone are the days of sharp lids and tins - no more do I have to be cautious when sorting out the Recycling bins in case I slice my finger - this really is a dream and safe for children to use too they're into cooking - I never used to let my children deal with opening tins, taking the kids off etc but now it's totally safe as this genius little gadget somehow folds the edge down as it opens so it is totally smooth - I honestly can't work out how is does it but it's actually life changing for me!As far as quality is concerned - it feels sturdy, well made and comfortable to hold and use. For me - it's worth every penny - it might seem privy as you can pick up tin openers for a fiver but this is quite unique in how it works and is great as I say for children how want to help and cook and open tins and eliminates dangerous edges you might unexpectedly encounter if you're sorting the rubbish/recycling.I can't recommend this enough and it's guaranteed for 3 years. I think it's built well enough to last much, much longer.

Leifheit have a well deserved reputation for making good quality kitchen and domestic items. We have used one of their ironing boards for several years, and whilst not cheap, the build quality would be hard to beat. This manual can opener is no exception. Using a basic can opener can be quite hazardous as it creates and leaves nasty jagged edges which can do a lot of damage. In contrast this gadget is entirely safe and rounds the edges in so as not to create a ragged edge. It's a bit hard to work out but you use this horizontally so that the edge of the can is between the two rollers. We have had a very similar opener for quite a few years, by Brabantia, and whilst it's looking a bit worn, it is still very solid. I have no doubt this will be doing the job for many years.

It took a bit of fiddling about and trial and error to work out how to use this can opener, but I got there eventually. Some instruction diagrams would be welcome though.Rather than cutting down into the top of the can and leaving both removed disk and and remaining can edge perrilously jagged - this opener takes off the top mm or so of the can from the side. It leaves both the removed top and the remaining can edge neatly turned in and unlikely to cut you. You could actually use the emty cans to keep something in the fridge or as a pencil holder of something - they are so tamed! Even if you are chucking them out you won't cut yourself, as I did a few years ago, pusing a bin bag down to make more space.Good item.

This really is very smooth and easy to use - thanks other reviewers for explaining how it works. Basically, you hold it flat onto the top of the can and close. There are two pincer tags that close together, so you can see whether you have successfully locked on. Then just turn.At first, you think it didn't work - then you realise the opener has cut from the side, so the lid itself is untouched. Simply lift the lid. You will find that the upper edge of the tin itself has been carefully folded over, and so has the edge of the lid, so nothing is sharp. The lid will even fit loosely back on. I have fantasies of making joke pencil holders and storage tins from tins of my favourite soup!

This tin opener has one of the best opening actions I have had from a tin opener not only is the mechanism smooth but it’s also nicely geared making it as easy as a hot knife through butter to open the tin.The Opener cuts the lid off at the top rim from the side and retains the list once cut, so you don’t have to handle the lid immediately. The opener’s mechanism kind of ‘rolls off’ the edge so it’s not as sharp as with a conventional tin opener. The $64000 question is why has it taken so long to come up with an opener this good? though it is granted a tad expensive.

I love this can opener, it's easy to use and looks great with the while plastic and red accents.I scoffed at first at the idea of a better 'safety' can opener, but the way this works to open lids with a slight edge which means that they can then be placed back down (a little like a paint tin lid) on top of a can is ingenious.I've happily replaced my current working can opener with this one, happy in the knowledge that they'll be no sharp edges to lids and that it's easy to re-store the can in the fridge if I don't need to use all the contents at once.

This is an excellent safety can opener.Comes well packed with simple instructions, although this item is so easy to use that instructions are not really needed. Can be used by a right or left handed person. I used - and am right handed, Dad opened a can and he is left handed just as easy as I did.The cut is not sharp making this truly a safety can opener. There is a good little tool that helps to take off the lid without touching - I like that. This is a well made product.Impressed

I usually find opening tins difficult, having arthritis means even the ring pull ones are tricky, but that's all changed now I have this opener. I was amazed how easy this is to use and how quickly and effortlessly it glides around a tin. Of sturdy construction and elegantly designed it looks as though it will last for many useful years of opening tins safely without fear of cut fingers.

I noticed with some tins that the cutting edge doesn't actually cut under the lip but on it. When it does work it doesn't leave a sharp or ragged edge which is quite useful if you don't want sliced to ribbons. Not easy to use if you have hypermobility in your fingers.

Excellent, well made and simple to.use item. Just place on the top of the can,and it will remove. No mess, no fuss, no sharp edges. Recommended. But it's not cheap,so maybe shop around? The Magican does a similar job cheaper. But this seems sturdier and will last longer . Good stuff, well made and designed.

An extremely well made gadget which removes tin lids effortlessly and safely. It's most ingenious how the tin opener bends the sharp edge over whilst still performing like a knife through butter. A little expensive yes, but it should last many years.

I found this tin opener rather fiddly and less easy to use than a standard opener.Robust and well made but not one I would recommend.

When you unpack this can-opener, you may initially be a little under-whelmed, especially if you have just paid over £20 for it. It looks like a perfectly normal, run of the mill opener, readily available in any supermarket for under a fiver. However, it works perfectly. With cheaper openers, the blade will often fail to stay in place, or simply won't deal with more awkward tasks, like square tins, or these large flat steak pies. This opener deals with everything I have asked it to do with ease.It operates differently from most openers by cutting the side of the tin, rather than the top of the lid. This results in the lid coming off neatly, and leaves no sharp edges. This is at first a little baffling until closer inspection shows that the edges have been folded over by the opener's action; quite ingenious, and a real plus, certainly for clumsy individuals like me!In summary, this is a great can-opener; simple and safe to use. I would recommend it to anyone, but would understand if they demurred sue to the price.

A safety Can opened that does just that. Opens cans, safely albeit in a slightly different style to regular openers. Having worked out the correct way to locate it to the can, then the correct direction to turn the handle the lid to my tin of Tuna was removed very easily and leaving no sharp edge. I don't really care how it works, it just does ...Bottle opener built into the side, built using 18/8 grade stainless steel which has an increased resistance to corrosion as well as a 3 year warranty & simple packaging leads me to believe that while a tin opener is becoming less of a requirement on a daily basis this would be the one to have if you need an easy, light touch opener that is safe, simple and uncomplicated in use. Dishwasher proof.
