There are many other knife sharpeners out there, but you easily get to a place where they just aren't doing the trick. The lansky system is really clever. The clamp system allows you to grip the blade, then using one of the supplied hones, and a hole in the clamp which indicates the angle of the strokes you will use, you can steadily, and actually fairly quickly, take a pretty rubbish blade to a really razer sharp finish. Start with coarse and work your way to fine and you will have some seriously sharp knives in no time.Marked down one star because it's quite expensive ultimately for what you get, and the clamp can be a bit fiddly with smaller blades.

This is a good piece of kit for the price, and a good sharp edge is quite easily achieved. However, it’s daft that the stand has to be bought separately; the sharpener is unusable without it! The jaws of the clamp are quite difficult to get properly angled to grip the knives, resulting in the knives slipping, which is annoying. I resolved this by gluing a patch of emery cloth to each inside face of the clamp. Good grip restored. Happy customer.

Simple and effective system for ensuring correct and consistent angles on your blades. This kit is not sufficient to get your blades really sharp. I would recommend also buying the ultrafine hone if you want that - it fits in the spare slot in the box. Note, I was supplied the newer design (not pictured, which includes 2 knurled red knobs for the holder. Seems like an improvement.The downside to this kit is it feels very cheaply made. The screws are nasty stamped metal, and my box, new out of the package, was so warped it would not close, and had to be held closed with an elastic band. It would get 5 stars if it just felt like a quality product.

I have tried using traditional sharpening stones on my knives with varying degrees of success. I found it hard to maintain the right angle for various types of knives and ruined a few so I was excited to give this system a try. It will put a great edge on a knife but as it can be a little challenging to get the correct motion I would suggest watching the how-to video on their website and starting with a knife you don’t care much for. All in all a good buy and I will be purchasing the ultra-fine hone and leather strop to try for the perfect edge.

Really good knife sharpening system easy to use and keeps you on the right angle for the blade being sharpened. I ordered the stone type hones but I will order 1 diamond course hone for changing blade edge angles also harder blades to help speed things up, and then finish them with the stone's. Ordered on May11 and it came in the mail on May15 fast shipping. Would recommend 100%. Thanks Breezy
