I bought one of these about 2 years ago, back when it came with a plastic top and you had to buy the metal top (which was blue, not black) separate. I loved it, recommended to everyone I knew, did my best to destroy it by carrying it everywhere in a city for a year and hiking in rocky forest for another, and it is still awesome.BUT THEN, I bought 4 in February for myself and a friend. Upon arrival it was clear they are different, and not just because of a different label and cap color:First - the metal inside looks like it is coated in something or a different quality, it does not have that stainless steel look. Perhaps as a consequence there was discoloration inside one - looked a bit like rust but it did not impart a rusty taste so we figured it be fine.Second - After one day of use, the plastic part of the top of one fell off. The screw into the bottle is metal, but the loop is cheaply attached plastic. The top fell off a second bottle shortly thereafter. We managed to reattach both, but it kept coming off one and soon was lost. The cap is not essential, but we need the hooks to attach them firmly to our packs (as we use them in field work) and they're hard to open and close without them.Third - there is a rubber seal at the point where the plastic of the loop attaches to the steel cap. When the plastic loop fell off, so did the seal, so now that bottle does not seal.Fourth - Those 2 of 4 without plastic top problems often leak. I think they come unscrewed just enough. My old bottle has NEVER leaked.Given 3 of 4 bottles have definite flaws, I am confident this is not a fluke, and the design (different label, different top, different metal/finish) accompanies a decrease in quality of materials and workmanship. Perhaps the company was sold, or manufacturing moved to some cheaper location. Get the old bottle if you can, even if you have to pay an extra 5 bucks to buy the blue top separately.

Stainless bottle with a stainless cap (threads are stainless too, top of cap is plastic). Looks to be well constructed and doesn't leak. I like the straps on it so I can mount it to backpacks, motorcycles, etc...Could you get away with reusing a plastic water bottle...sure you could. But this is more stout and will last longer if you are not smashing it like the Hulk.I'll update if it starts to get the little rust pits like my cheap-o stainless water bottles. For now... works and looks just fine.

This is the third New Wave Enviro Stainless Steel Water Bottle I've purchased to replace the excessive plastic ones I've accumulated over the years.I really like the 40-ounce size and have come to depend on the durability of stainless. It is easily cleaned with baking soda and although some reviewers have detected a "metal" taste, I don't find this to be an issue.Although not a problem with the two previous bottles, the cap on this one did leak. Upon closer inspection, the seal displayed a manufacturing defect. It was easily remedied with a new seal I took from a different cap.If you're looking to dump those plastic bottles, I would recommend looking at this product.

I've been using this bottle for just over a year now, and it has gone everywhere and done everything with me. I'm a backpacker and die-hard outdoor enthusiast and demand quality in my supplies. I'm rough on my equipment and many products don't last long in my company, yet this bottle is still going strong and has not leaked on me once. Sure, it's dented a bit from tumbling across rocky ground and scratched all to hell, but it takes what I throw at it and still continues. Of course the bottle dents, it's metal. For the bottle to be dent-proof, it would have to be even thicker than it already is, adding excess weight to a bottle that is supposed to hold 40 ounces of water, which itself can be heavy for every-day carry. Dents are only cosmetic, and do not effect the integrity of the bottle. I should also note that the bottle doesn't dent easily, and a several foot drop with full water capacity will dent any metal bottle.I was very surprised and impressed with this product, and would recommend it to anyone looking for a great bottle at a low price.

Nice stainless bottle. The nylon wrap is easy to remove, so you could lay this next to a fire to boil water (after removing the plastic top!). Not that I've done this. LOL, I just watch other guys do this stuff on Youtube and think how cool I'd be if I did this. But so far my bush county experience has been watching those that actually DO this stuff. Still, this bottle feels solid, does not impart any taste to my water and should work fine for boiling water if placed next to a fire.

Short video review of the New Wave Stainless steel bottle. I've had 4 stainless steel bottles now, all shortly misplaced and stolen. The first two were Klean Kanteen's I dented the bottom of one when it rolled off the back of the truck, never leaked. Never had any major denting if the bottle was less than half full. It really needs the weight and an impact on a hard surface to dent the bottles. the last two have been New Wave, basically they are cheaper and as far as I can tell the same as Klean Kanteen. If I loose this one again I'm going with the $8 stainless steel bottles. I will say I have left my nalgene bottles in various locations and came back to them every time, if you leave this type laying around people pick it up. I even put my name and number on the last one and when I realized I left it behind I went back and it was gone, no text or phone call.Pros:Water tastes exactly they way it tastes when you put it in. No metallic taste for me.Wrap it in a towel and it will stay cool in a hot car.The carry strap can also provide some impact resistance.Con:Can be loud when opening, if your in a quiet public setting or a classroom this might disturb people.may dent if its full of water and you drop it.

This water bottle doesn't really have a metallic taste, it holds at least 40 ounces of water, and it keeps the water fairly cool when stored at room temperature. It came with a stainless steel cap, which I wasn't expecting, but I definitely prefer. I haven't had any problems with leaking. The things I don't like so much about this item - the bottle does dent fairly easily (especially if thrown on the floor by an angry 2 year old!). The loop on the cap is small, one of my fingers fits very snugly through it, and when it is full, it is awkward to carry it with only one finger, as it is quite heavy. The bottle does sweat a lot if ice is put in with the water. I have had a couple of days when the water smelled bad, even after washing with baking soda or vinegar, but most days there is no smell. Overall, I am satisfied with my purchase, and would be likely to buy one again.

Had to sand down some rough edges toward the inside of the top of the four bottles for fear of loose metal ending up in the water. Other than that the other seams were done nicely. The strap could be a better design. If you want it removed from the bottle you pretty much have to cut it off.Update: starting to get surface rust on the outside of two of the four bottles I bought. Don't waste your money on these.
